How to choose a booking system for your business
Most booking systems on the market are built for businesses where a booking lasts hours or days — a doctor's office, a hotel, a hair salon. But if your business handles bookings measured in minutes, across several rooms and several people available at the same time, those tools run out of road fast.
The questions that matter before you choose one
Does it update itself, or does someone have to mark it manually? If a booking ends and the room still shows as "occupied" until someone marks it by hand, you'll lose real bookable time every single day.
Does it show who's available, not just which slots are open? A booking isn't just a free room — it also depends on who's available at that moment. A booking system that doesn't bring those two together leaves you asking over chat anyway.
What happens when someone runs over time? In a high-turnover operation, overtime is constant. The system should flag it automatically, not depend on someone watching the clock.
Does it connect the booking to the payment and the commission? If the booking lives in one system and the payment is recorded somewhere else, sooner or later you'll have discrepancies — and no way to tell where they came from.
What a generic booking system doesn't solve
Booking systems built for medical or beauty appointments assume one booking at a time, a fixed service and a duration measured in hours. That model doesn't hold up when you're managing:
- Several rooms running at once, with statuses that change every few minutes.
- A roster of available people that shifts throughout the day (they clock in, clock out, become occupied).
- Add-on services booked mid-session that change the final amount charged.
How Foxxy does it
In Foxxy, a booking isn't an isolated event on a calendar — it's connected to the room's real status, the availability of the person assigned and the commission calculation, all in the same place. When a booking starts, the room changes status on its own. When it ends, it moves to cleaning and becomes available again without anyone updating anything by hand.
